Sax Impey: Art Focus | Floor 1

Overview

A unique artist influenced directly by his experiences at sea, Sax Impey’s status as a qualified RYA Yachtmaster inspires and fills his paintings of waves and water. Part of a historic studio complex overlooking Porthmeor Beach in St Ives, Cornwall, Impey’s process includes close collaboration, resulting in projects of film, theatre, performance, and installation. His thousands of nautical miles spent delivering yachts to every corner of the world has a large impact on his work, and is inseparable from his art.

Born in Penzance, Cornwall in 1969, Impey now lives and works in St. Ives. After graduating from art college, Impey moved to East Africa to participate in film, performance, and theatre projects before moving back to Cornwall.

Impey has enjoyed solo and group exhibitions throughout the United Kingdom and has participated in numerous residencies including Kunstbrucke, Berlin and Estuary Lab, Dyfi, Wales. His work can be found in private collections around the world and in the public collections of the Arts Council, Warwick University, The Connaught Hotel, and Travelex.
